First Impressions: Eden of the East

Without a doubt, if you’re looking for something good to watch, follow and blog this spring season then this anime’s for you.Really. The premise might sound a bit strange at first but let it sink through you and watch the first episode and I assure you, and other bloggers do so too, that you won’t regret watching this.

I’ve this weird saying, ‘Those who will play with cats must expect to be scratched.’ but I guess that with this show, I proved that this isn’t always right. This show didn’t fulfill my expectations, it surpassed it. What’s good about the show is that the plot seemed and looks so real. It’s funny how these two crossed paths and how they eventually because friends (or acquaintances). Two thumbs up for this show!

I don’t think I have anything to complain about in this show because it’s too good. It’s not overrated because it really deserves that big applause. One thing is that the character designs are similar with Honey and Clover (I love that anime!) ‘s style so it makes me feel nostalgic when watching this. Another thumbs up for the producers because they actually used seiyuus who are fluent in english. Doesn’t it just hurt to the ears when you hear Engrish in anime? :O

Other than that, I was speechless. Eden of the East is/was/will be the best Spring 2009 anime, no doubt.

Girl, Morimi Saki, whose in front of the white house meets naked boy with a gun and a cellphone in hand who saved her from the police, having caught in throwing a coin on the white house. The two of them managed to escape. Saki gave her coat, scarf and hat to the naked guy to thank him for saving him but after he left, she realized that he passport and wallet was in the coat pocket. Without her passport, she wouldn’t be able to go back to Japan! So she follows him while to his appartment.

Meanwhile, he who is suffering memory loss, remembers that he has a phone in hand and unknowingly, he called someone named Juiz and this Juiz person told him that he’s memory has been erased and his identity is classified information for the time being. The only thing that she tells him is where his apartment is located so he tries to find it. He discovers that his room looks like a terrorist’s room – filled with weaponry and such so he assumes that he might be a terrorist.

Saki soon catches up to him to his room and asks for her passport. After he gives her the passport, a police officer approaches them and asks them if they were the ones from the pictures. After Akira pulled down his pants, both the officer and Saki got flustered and the police woman let them go. They ran towards the airport and planned to go back together to Japan after knowing each other a  bit. Last scene shows them looking at a screen with news featuring a terrorist attack in Japan.

Found this HQ screencap somewhere in google, credits to whoever owns it XD

“Falling Down” – Oasis

Watching and listening to the OP, I was completely flabbergasted on how amazing it was. It’s as if, I wanted to hear the song over and over again. It’s nice to see an OP that is english. You heard that right, english and not engrish. The animation and the effects were truly awesome with different effects such as vintage styling and a lot others that I can’t exactly express.

“Futuristic Imagination” – School Food Punishment

The ED, on the other hand wasn’t as good as the OP but it was good, in it’s unexpected ways. I just love the scrap paper effect. The song was in japanese this time but still, it was simple but it was amazing.

All in all, I greet the producers and the ones behind this show a good job because they just unknowingly caught my heart and interest. :3

Cool phone dude. XD What’s with the circle-thingy?

His Johnny exposed. `Nuff said.

Simply, I felt that this scene was fascinating to cap.

eden_10WTH, VNN? CNN much, guys? :O Don’t worry, I still love you, Production IG <33

No. This anime wouldnt be defined as ‘good’. It will be defined as ‘good’ if they are into the genre of the anime. I dont know, I just dont like this anime thats why.

Well, yeah you could put it that way. One who doesn’t like this genre wouldn’t want to watch this but it’s worth a try.

At first, I thought that it was pretty boring too because the genre isn’t something I usually watch.

Aww. It’s fine if you don’t like it, you have your own tastes 😉

It’s really a very enjoyable first episode. A lot of mystery had been squeezed already, and it’s also “revealing” as well XD. It’s something worth watching and has sense. Those who recognize anime as shows that flashes moe blobs and panties only say that this isn’t “good” tbh. This show needs more love ^^.

I think that the OP and ED were awesome. The OP uses kinetic typography and vintage swirly-thingy are just shiny awesome ^^. The ED was probably the second best ED this whole season for me (first is K-On!’s of course, lol) because I found the music really catchy and the origami style really unique.

And last but definitely not the least, Akira is sooo adorable XD!!!

@kanzeon: I know, right? That’s what hooked me into Eden of the East because I love mystery! Lol. If there would be romance then this would be my favorite for the season.
Yeah, I guess this one’s underrated in that part of the anime industry but they like what they like and we like what we like. Simple as that. *sigh*

Oh you had to mention that! Both the OP and ED were surely awesome. I mean, if the effects weren’t enough, the song surely made up for it. XD

And last, of course he is! *glomps Akira*
